Meaning and background
The story behind Admiral
Admiral is the English naval rank for a very senior officer. Its history leads back, through French forms, to Arabic amīr, a word for a commander or leader. As a dog name it is intentionally grand and quite long; Admiral might suit someone who enjoys calling a full title, with “Ad” as an informal shortening.
