Meaning and background
The story behind Alisa
Alisa is the form of Alice recorded in Russian, Ukrainian, Bosnian, Finnish and Georgian, among other usages. The underlying Alice name family comes through French from an earlier Germanic form, but each language has its own pronunciation. Russian Alisa uses the Cyrillic spelling Алиса; Finnish sounds quite different. For a dog, the two- or three-syllable effect depends on the language chosen for the call.
