Meaning and background
The story behind Althea
Althea is the Latinised form of ancient Greek Althaia, a name borne in Greek myth by the mother of Meleager. It may be connected to a Greek word concerned with healing, but that etymology is explicitly tentative. English has two documented stress patterns for the name. This gives it a literary and mythological history while avoiding the too-confident claim that every Althea simply “means healer”.
