Meaning and background

The story behind Arno

Arno is a recognised short form of Arnold or Arnoud in Dutch and German. The name therefore sits in the same family as Arnie, although its final vowel gives it a distinctly different spoken finish. There is also an Italian river called the Arno, but sharing its spelling is not proof of a particular dog's namesake. The personal-name derivation is the one documented here.
