Meaning and background
The story behind Aya
Aya has several unrelated histories. In Japanese its meaning depends on the kanji: characters for colour or design are among the choices. Arabic āya means a sign or verse, while an Akkadian Aya was a dawn goddess. Spanish and French Aya can also be a form of the Basque place name Aia. Which connection applies depends on the naming tradition; no single translation covers them all.
