Meaning and background
The story behind Azor
Azor is a Spanish name for the goshawk, a swift woodland bird of prey. The same spelling also occurs as an obsolete Spanish word for a wall, though that is an unrelated borrowing from Arabic. The goshawk is the more familiar modern word, but neither dictionary entry proves how a particular owner chose Azor for a dog. Its brief two-syllable form makes it straightforward to call.
