Meaning and background
The story behind Bab
Bab is a familiar way of addressing someone affectionately in Birmingham and parts of the West Midlands, much like “love” or “dear”. It is especially natural when said directly to a person, so using it for a dog has the feel of a ready-made nickname. That local word does not prove that every Bab is a short form of Barbara, and the two explanations should remain separate.
