Meaning and background
The story behind Bardot
Bardot is the surname of Brigitte Bardot, the performer who went on to establish an animal-protection foundation. The foundation’s own history dates its creation in Saint-Tropez to 1986 and its move to Paris to 1988. Someone choosing a dog’s name from an interest in animal welfare therefore has a concrete organisation and founder to identify. A reference to Bardot may also recall her earlier screen career. These biographical associations do not establish the surname’s original linguistic meaning.
