Meaning and background
The story behind Bazooka
Bazooka has an unexpectedly musical stage in its history. Before the rocket-launcher use, the word named a makeshift instrument associated with comedian Bob Burns; the later military object borrowed that name. The earlier slang and proposed Dutch connection are less certain. An owner might like its theatrical sound, but the weapon association will also be recognisable to many listeners. Keeping the comic-instrument story clear gives a more specific explanation than claiming it means power or describing a dog as explosive.
