Meaning and background
The story behind Bippy
Bippy is a piece of American comic slang most recognisable from the phrase “you bet your sweet bippy”. A dictionary describes it as a playful substitute for an unspecified part of the body and treats its deeper formation as uncertain. The expression was popularised through the television comedy Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. As a dog name it carries that bouncy sound; there is no sound basis for attaching an invented ancient-language meaning.
