Meaning and background
The story behind Britta
Britta is another Scandinavian form within the Birgitta name family. It is particularly familiar in Swedish, Norwegian and Danish naming, where the related shorter forms include Brit and Britt. The final vowel changes its sound from the sharper one-syllable Britt. It would be misleading to describe Britta simply as a modern spelling of Brittany: the two names have different histories.
