Meaning and background
The story behind Bucks
Bucks is the regular plural of buck, a word most plainly associated with male deer. In American English bucks can also mean dollars. Either connection is a dictionary possibility, but the written name alone cannot establish which was intended for a dog. It differs from Buck only by the final s, giving it a firm, compact sound. No separate ancient name etymology is required to explain the spelling.
