Meaning and background
The story behind Canela
Canela has two distinct surname explanations. The dictionary connects Spanish use with cinnamon and the spice trade, while Portuguese use can come from a nickname involving a shinbone or leg. A cinnamon-colored dog may inspire the owner's Spanish-word association, but that should not erase the Portuguese route. A family or language connection can therefore clarify which historical explanation belongs in the naming story.
