Meaning and background
The story behind Cesar
Cesar is an unaccented spelling used for César, a Spanish form of the old Roman name Caesar. The latter became associated with emperors because it belonged to Julius Caesar and then developed into a title. That does not make emperor the original literal meaning of Cesar. Scholars disagree about Caesar's deeper root, and a connection with hair remains only one theory. The modern name is best explained through its recorded Roman ancestry.
- Origin
- Unaccented spelling of Spanish César, ultimately the Roman cognomen Caesar Source
