Meaning and background
The story behind Charlee
Charlee is a modern feminine spelling of Charlie, keeping the familiar two-syllable sound while replacing the final -ie with -ee. Its history therefore runs through Charles rather than through a new word that happens to look similar. Charlie has long been used independently as well as affectionately, and Charlee extends that pattern. There is no scholarly basis for giving the extra e letters their own special translation.
