Meaning and background
The story behind Chi-Chi
Chi-Chi has a conservation-history namesake in the giant panda who lived at London Zoo. The Natural History Museum documents her arrival in Britain in 1958, her later preservation in its collection and her role as inspiration for the WWF panda emblem. That gives an animal-inspired dog name a specific historical reference. Both Chi-Chi and spaced Chi Chi occur in institutional accounts, so retaining the hyphen is a spelling choice to record. The panda’s biography does not supply a translation for every repeated Chi name.
