Meaning and background
The story behind Cholla
Cholla is a cactus reference with a vivid landscape connection at Joshua Tree National Park. The National Park Service describes stands of teddy bear cholla in the Pinto Basin, where detached stems can take root and grow new plants. That gives a desert-inspired dog name a particular plant and habitat to identify. The soft-sounding teddy bear label refers to appearance: the park also notes that broken segments carry sharp spines. A visit, photograph or interest in desert botany can explain the naming choice.
