Meaning and background
The story behind Crixus
Crixus is historically attested in accounts of the revolt associated with Spartacus. In Florus's Epitome of Roman History, Crixus appears with Spartacus and Oenomaus among the gladiators who escape from Capua and gather other enslaved people to their cause. The University of Chicago hosts an English translation of that ancient text. This supplies a substantial historical association for a dog name, without relying on an unsupported translation of Crixus itself.
