Meaning and background
The story behind Di
Di is an English short form of Diana, well known as a compact personal nickname. Naming references give it the British spoken sound 'dye', which is not the same as pronouncing the two letters separately. The much older origins of Diana belong to the longer name rather than to Di as an independent word. Its extreme brevity can be handy as a dog call, provided it is spoken consistently.
