Meaning and background
The story behind Diane
Diane is a French form of Diana that is also widely recognisable in English. The longer mythological name refers to the Roman goddess of hunting and the moon; Diane is not independently a French word meaning 'moon'. In British English it is usually spoken in two syllables, rather than the French one-syllable pronunciation. The short ending makes it practical as an everyday dog name.
