Meaning and background
The story behind Djinn
Djinn is an English spelling used for beings called jinn in Arabic and in Islamic and wider Middle Eastern traditions. The Arabic form is collective; a single being may be called a jinni. English 'genie' became associated with related stories through translation, but it is not the same linguistic pathway as the Latin word genius. As a dog name, Djinn invokes a cultural and folkloric idea, not a traditional human virtue.
