Meaning and background
The story behind Dojo
A dojo is a place where Japanese martial arts are practised. The Japanese term is normally analysed as dō, 'way', and jō, 'place'; in English the borrowed word refers to the training hall rather than a personal name. It has a clean pair of syllables for everyday use, and the martial-arts association is quite specific. A dog named Dojo need not have any particular temperament or training background.
