Meaning and background

The story behind Dopamine

Dopamine is a chemical messenger in the nervous system. Cleveland Clinic explains its roles in movement, attention, learning and the brain's reward processes; reducing it to a simple 'happiness chemical' misses much of the science. As a dog name it is a modern, distinctive borrowed scientific term, usually shortened informally if the full three syllables are unwieldy. There is no factual basis for claiming that a dog so named has unusual dopamine levels.
