Meaning and background
The story behind Dubai
Dubai is a place name: the city and one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. Its identity is well documented by Dubai's official tourism authority, with the creek and trading history forming part of its heritage. Proposals for the word's deeper derivation are disputed, however, and should not be presented as a firm Arabic translation. As a dog name it carries a geographical association, but the record gives no reason for the choice.
