Meaning and background
The story behind Eliza
Eliza is a short form of Elizabeth, with English, Polish and Hungarian reference readings that do not sound identical. In English, its central vowel has the eye sound; another household may intend a different language’s reading. Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion and My Fair Lady is a documented literary and theatrical association. That can be a meaningful naming story without explaining every Eliza. For everyday use, the short form already works as a complete name, and there is no need to add Elizabeth unless you want it.
