Meaning and background

The story behind Fiver

Fiver has both a literary and an everyday money association. Penguin Random House identifies Fiver among the rabbits returning in Richard Adams’s Tales from Watership Down. Oxford separately records fiver as informal British English for five pounds and an older North American term for five dollars. A dog owner can specify whether the attraction is the rabbit character, a personal number connection or the ordinary word. Those routes should not be combined into an invented claim about how the fictional character’s name was originally formed.
