Meaning and background
The story behind Gallo
Gallo has several surname explanations. The dictionary records Italian and Spanish rooster nicknames, but also Italian personal names, a reference to Gaul, and places called Gallo. Regional French and Breton histories appear separately. The bird association is therefore genuine but not universal. A dog’s name can draw on that image, while a surname tribute should preserve the possibility that a particular family’s Gallo arose through another documented route.
