Meaning and background
The story behind Grape
Grape takes its name from the familiar climbing-vine fruit. English borrowed the word from Old French in the medieval period; the deeper connection with a verb meaning to pick or grasp is probable rather than certain. The sweet-sounding name needs one important distinction: a dog may be called Grape, but actual grapes and raisins can be poisonous to dogs. The PDSA advises veterinary help after any suspected ingestion.
