Meaning and background
The story behind Hela
Hela has more than one independently documented association. In Polish it can be a short form of Helena, a relationship discussed by Poland's official Council for the Polish Language. Popular culture also uses Hela for a version of the Norse figure Hel, but that does not establish a Polish name as Norse. Without the owner's intended language, it is safest to explain these uses separately rather than offer one universal translation.
