Meaning and background
The story behind Hodu
Hodu is the more usual romanisation of the Korean word 호두, meaning 'walnut'. Maangchi records the Hangul spelling and also the alternative English rendering 'hodoo'. This makes Hodu a transparent food-word choice when used in that Korean sense, although no supplied record identifies the reason the dog was named. The form has two Korean syllable blocks, 호 and 두, and should not be confused with names from other languages just because they look similar.
