Meaning and background
The story behind Jude
Jude has two documented English routes: a biblical form used to distinguish one apostle named Judas, and a familiar form of Judith. The single-syllable pronunciation is shared, but the longer-name histories differ. An owner choosing it for a dog may have a person or another cultural reference in mind, and that personal story need not match either route exactly. Its final d gives a firmer ending than Joe. Keep the intended connection explicit rather than assigning a meaning based on one assumed full name.
