Meaning and background
The story behind Julietta
Julietta has a precise operatic association in Bohuslav Martinů's work of that title. Publisher Boosey & Hawkes identifies it as a three-act lyric opera, composed in 1936–37, with text by the composer after Georges Neveux's play. A theatre's cast material also uses Julietta for the character. These sources give a musical reference for the exact spelling; they do not establish the general etymology of Julietta as a person's or dog's name.
