Meaning and background
The story behind Kiya
Kiya is documented as the name of a queen associated with the earlier part of Akhenaten's reign. The Amarna Project's account of the North Palace says inscriptions suggest it may originally have been made for Nefertiti or Kiya before being adapted for Princess Meritaten. The uncertainty about the palace's first occupant should remain visible. This archaeological reference gives Kiya an ancient Egyptian historical association, without establishing a translation of the name or a connection to similar modern spellings.
