Meaning and background

The story behind Kogi

Kogi is the name of an Indigenous people of Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Berlin's state museums use the exact spelling, also noting Cogui, in their account of returning two ritual masks acquired in 1915. That source grounds the cultural association in a living community and specific objects, rather than an invented translation. It does not explain Kogi as a personal name or show that this is the reference intended for a particular dog.
