Meaning and background
The story behind Koopa
Koopa belongs to the vocabulary of Nintendo’s Mushroom Kingdom. Nintendo reproduces the original Super Mario Bros. instruction-book story, in which the Koopa are a turtle tribe and Bowser is their king. Its character guide continues to identify Bowser with the Koopas and his many underlings. For a dog owner, the spelling can therefore recall the game world or a particular enemy encounter. This is a fictional species and group association, rather than evidence that Koopa is a traditional personal name meaning turtle.
