Meaning and background
The story behind Lam
Lam is a family-name spelling with several independent histories. In Cantonese it can represent Chinese 林, often rendered “forest”, or 藍, “blue”; Vietnamese Lâm can also descend from these surnames. Dutch, German and Danish surnames written Lam have different explanations, including forms of Lambert. Those language-specific roots cannot responsibly be collapsed into a single meaning for a dog named Lam.
