Meaning and background
The story behind Laszlo
Laszlo is the unaccented English spelling of Hungarian László, a historic form of the Slavic name Vladislav. It has a particular place in Hungarian history because King László I was later venerated as Saint Ladislaus. Hungarian places the stress at the start, and the written accent in László signals vowel length. Omitting the accent from a dog’s name need not erase that linguistic background.
