Meaning and background
The story behind Laurent
Laurent is the French equivalent of Laurence, ultimately coming from the Roman name Laurentius, “from Laurentum”. The name of that ancient Italian place is probably related to the Latin laurel word, but the two stages should not be collapsed into a simple adjective. In French its final consonant is silent and the last vowel is nasal, so its sound differs considerably from English Lawrence.
