Meaning and background
The story behind Lazer
Lazer should not automatically be corrected to Laser. It is recorded as a Yiddish personal-name form of Eliezer, written לייזער, and the name appears in the stage musical Fiddler on the Roof. It happens to resemble a phonetic English spelling of “laser”, but that resemblance is a separate possible modern association. The documented Yiddish personal-name history is valuable in its own right.
