Meaning and background
The story behind Leelo
Leelo is an Estonian word and given name connected with folk singing. In south-eastern Estonia, Seto leelo refers to a distinctive polyphonic song tradition, not simply to modern popular music. Its association with voice and traditional performance makes this a more specific choice than a generic “musical” name. It should not be confused automatically with the film character Leeloo, whose spelling and background differ.
