Meaning and background
The story behind Lia
Lia has at least two well-attested routes. Italian, Portuguese, Georgian and Greek speakers use it as a form of the biblical Leah, while Italian, Dutch and German naming also use Lia as a shortening of names such as Rosalia and Julia. Both are genuine traditions. Depending on the language, the vowels may be kept distinctly separate rather than compressed into one English-style syllable.
