Meaning and background
The story behind Luo
Luo is an established romanisation of Chinese surnames, but it does not have one meaning independent of the character being represented. A surname dictionary records Mandarin Luó for 羅, with roots including an ancient state in what is now Hubei, and also Luò for a different character, 駱. A pet called Luo can draw on Chinese naming traditions, provided a specific character is not guessed from the spelling alone.
- Origin
- Romanisation of multiple Chinese surnames, notably Mandarin 羅 (Luó), with lineages including the ancient state of Luo; another distinct surname is 駱 (Luò). Source
