Meaning and background
The story behind Magda
Magda is a compact form of Magdalena used across several European languages, including German, Polish and Czech. It therefore shares Magdalena’s older association with Magdalene and the place name Magdala, rather than deriving from the unrelated English adjective *mad*. Different languages pronounce its consonants and vowels differently; English owners may use their own familiar version. Its short written shape makes it a concise alternative to the full Magdalena.
