Meaning and background
The story behind Magnet
Magnet comes from the English word for an object that attracts iron and certain other metals. Its older name was linked to magnetite or lodestone, called a “Magnesian stone” after the region Magnesia. That is a geographical explanation, not a Greek given name meaning “attractive”. As a dog name it carries an obvious modern metaphor of attraction, but the verified word origin is more precise than the metaphor.
