Meaning and background
The story behind Moonshine
Moonshine has several English associations: moonlight, empty talk, and intoxicating liquor, especially illicitly distilled whiskey. A dog owner may intend the night-sky image or a very different household reference, so the spelling alone should not select one story. The dictionary establishes those separate word senses. It does not provide a single personal-name origin, and a luminous interpretation should not silently erase the other meanings people may recognize.
