Meaning and background
The story behind Odette
Odette is a French diminutive related to Oda or Odilia. Outside name dictionaries it is familiar through *Swan Lake*, whose central princess is called Odette. The ballet association may be what attracts a dog owner, but it is not a translation of the French name. Its ending also distinguishes it audibly from Oda, even though the two share a name-family connection.
