Meaning and background
The story behind Paca
Paca has at least two very different histories. In Spanish naming it can be an affectionate form of Francisca; in zoological English, a paca is a large spotted rodent native to Central and South America, with the word borrowed from an Indigenous language. These are not competing translations of one traditional name. A dog called Paca might reflect either route, so context matters more than a confident single label.
