Meaning and background
The story behind Paddington
Paddington is a London place name with an especially well-known literary connection. Michael Bond's bear was named after Paddington railway station, and the first Paddington story appeared in 1958. The railway and fictional-bear links are solid, even though they do not settle the oldest history of the district's name. Used for a dog, Paddington has an unmistakably British association and a distinctive three-beat sound.
