Meaning and background
The story behind Pam
Pam is an established English short form of Pamela, rather than a separate ancient word with a hidden translation. It is familiar as a personal nickname and has an unusually compact one-syllable shape. Although Pamela was coined in literature, Pam's immediate formation is simply the shortening of that longer name. For a dog it is easy to say and hard to mishear, without needing claims about a particular temperament.
