Meaning and background
The story behind Plover
Plover is the name for several small to medium-sized shorebirds, including the familiar ringed plover. The English bird word came from Old French plovier, related to a Latin word for rain. That etymology does not mean every bird is a rain bird in modern taxonomy. Plover has an uncommon, airy sound and may appeal to a birdwatcher, while remaining a concrete nature word rather than a personality label.
